Astro Men: I was first asked by Dennis L. Phelps for a mask maker (knowing I knew a few) for MOTAZ. When they couldn't take the assignment I sculpted my first "Astro-Man".He wasn't at all like the "classic Astro-Man" but, a rotting corpse with a mask bolted on the face. I was contacted by friends and fans pleading with me to use the "classic Astro- Man" and after getting more pictures I agreed with them. My masks were sculpted more form fitting and skin tight. I wanted them to be able to move their heads more. I used plastilina clay and a toy helmet to build up my sculpture over the lifemask of Keir Dullea (Dave Bowman in 2001).Once my design for "Astro-Man 2001" was finished I built up a
dividing wall of clay (I made it a 2 piece mold so, I could remove the lifemask and toy helmet and then sealed it into a 1 piece mold). With time running out the eyes needed attention. There was no time to find 12 sets of cheap sun glasses with bubble lenses, so the actors would have to see through well hidden slots. Ted was worried about the human mouths showing like in the "classic" look. I took some cloth painters hoods from the paint store and dyed them black. When worn under the "Astro-Man" mask it covered the mouth completly. I used some fancy braided cord for the jumper wires on the sides of their heads. The best trick was I cast the masks in the pale green color by tinting the latex with regular liquid paint tints. Now each mask was only minimally painted and shadowed with a coat of gloss black fingernail polish for the eyes. After my prototype was ready I took it to the studio for some shots. By this time all 12 "Astro Men" were ready to ship to Nevada for use in the feature. After one last glance off they went to TVM Studios. Little did I know that I would once again wear an "Astro Man" mask during the shoot this time!......... Jay Gowey

MARK OF THE ASTRO-ZOMBIES synopsis by Ted V. Mikels. Copyright 2001 Ted V. Mikels.

Strange alien fingers are operating on humans, placing chips into their brains, and replacing organs with synthetic replacements. In a fenced-in courtyard, ten to twelve strange looking beings with miss-shaped heads are milling about. On the orders pressed into what the face of what looks like a palm pilot by alien fingers, the strange creatures snap to a state of alert. A SECOND SIGNAL sends these beings into a frenzy. Escaping the compound and wildly swinging sharp machetes in the air, they take to the streets, indiscriminately slashing and killing all that are in sight. They are receiving orders through cyber-space, orders sent like e-mail into the receiver-chips implanted in their brains. These are THE ASTRO-ZOMBIES.

Police are helpless to defend or protect the citizens on the street, for when they fire bullets into the ASTRO-ZOMBIES, they bleed a green ooze, but continue killing, as they are unstoppable.

In the offices of the FBI, Jeff Lancaster, an agent, sees on the TV screen the pandemonium that is taking place. Jeff quickly calls his friend Cindy Natale, and tells her this would be the type of material that would propel an investigative reporter to recognition. Cindy is on her way out of her newspaper office with a TV crew to cover the attacks as Jeff's call comes in.

In the alien's operating room, four aliens are implanting body parts and brain chips into more human subjects. Actual human organs are discarded, as the process continues. Solar energy cells implanted in the foreheads of the astro-zombies drive their synthetic heart-pumps, and other implanted organs. Green ooze is pumped into their veins and arteries.

People in alleys, sidewalks and city streets, apartments and garages become the victims of the terrorizing ASTRO-ZOMBIES. Pandemonium reigns.

Cindy and her TV crew are attempting to interview witnesses to the grisly scenes, all are hysterical.

In the offices of the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, Ward Pennwood is appointing a staff to call together the brilliant scholars in several related sciences to attempt to learn what is happening. General Kingston, Garth Woodard, Tomas Peripoulos, Jessica Newhall are under orders to form a team of specialists.

Jeff catches up with Cindy and the two discuss what might be happening. Cindy is sure that her boyfriend Jeff, with access to FBI and CIA information, knows more than he is willing to discuss with her.

General Kingston is unaware that while he is calling together his group of brilliant doctors and scientists, alien beings are noting the communications, becoming aware of where and to whom Kingston is taking to. The aliens prepare the laser-projected MARK OF THE ASTRO-ZOMBIES, documenting the whereabouts of those who have been contacted.

Dr. Randolph West, a specialist in interplanetary communications tells Kingston he has a plan. Remote viewing might be brought into the search for answers.

In another setting, an evil, ambitious and satanic woman, MALVIRA, is perusing newspaper headlines. She tells her accomplice, ZOKAR, that these events are somewhat similar to what took place another time. She has a plan to capitalize on these events, and orders Zokar to gather the names of major foreign emissaries from the consulates of record.

In the President's office, Ward Pennwood is discussing with his staff the possibility of calling in the military. General Kingston feels it is too soon; Garth and Tomas lay out a plan to map out the basic area where the attacks are occurring. Ward and Kingston fear the possibility of public panic.

Dr. Randolph West enters a classroom where Dr. Owens is concluding a remote-viewing seminar. Her closing comments are that the military is investigating the use of this ability by some to zero in on an enemy's activities. Dr. West and Dr. Owens take part in a remote viewing session, and Dr. Owens visualizes aliens at an operating table, as it is actually taking place.

In a pathology room where Dr. Neidermeyer, Dr. Grashoff and Dr. Sweikert discuss the existence of alien life forms, they come to the conclusion that aliens from planets and asteroids ten to sixteen billion years older than our planet earth, have knowledge and intelligence beyond our abilities to conceptualize. This could be the reason that bodies of victims of the attacks have had certain organs and entrails removed, and in particular, brains. Someone or something is tampering with our physiogamies.

In an office of NASA, Jonathan Rossmore is discussing with Jeff and Cindy the pre-requisites of interplanetary space flight by earth's humans. Even if cryogenics were utilized, there would be no assurances of perfect functionality of these awakened space-travelers. It almost would require some form of humanoid as yet unknown to undertake this type of space-travel. As of yet, this technology is not available.

In the Control Alien's operating room, a green 'ooze' is transfused into ASTRO-ZOMBIE bodies. The aliens will send the A-Z's to intercept and capture General Kingston's team members by tagging them with a laser mark, "THE MARK OF THE ASTRO-ZOMBIES". The A-Z's zero in on these people through orders from ZEKITH and bring them into the operating rooms of the control aliens.

Malvira and Zokar have devised a plan to extort millions of dollars from foreign agents who have gathered to witness their staged control of an Astro-Zombie. Malvira orders Zokar to slash a tied up victim to death, then shoot another on her orders. She then turns the gun on the fake A-Z Zokar and green ooze squirts out of the bullet-holes. Zokar is ordered to shoot the agents but stops short when Malvira starts the bidding for the knowledge to control the A-Z's.

In the fenced-in courtyard, control aliens inspect Astro-Zombies that have various chips implanted. One is growing an animal arm after a machete removed his arm; another has grown a second head. The aliens seem to be able to grow anything they wish with their chip implants.

More team members are contacted by General Kingston and are promptly marked by the aliens with the laser mark, and are dragged off by Astro-Zombies.

Malvira, not content with her gains, calls the newspaper and convinces Cindy that she has new information on the A-Z's, and arranges to meet her. Zokar and Malvira kidnap Cindy, and force her to lure Jeff to their meeting place.

In an unusual room of Space intelligences, two good aliens the need to reach humans and convince them that not all aliens are bad. One of these is ASTP-73.

In the operating room of the control aliens, the various team members are laid out on slabs. They are held immobile in a trance. Their brains are hooked up to computers that are extracting the knowledge they possess.

In the White House offices of the president, he and his staff are informed that there is a strange communication from beings that request to speak with the president. The good aliens identify themselves. They are from an asteroid in space and offer to help destroy the evil aliens.

In Malvira's demonstration room, Jeff and Cindy are helplessly strapped in chairs where the previous victims were killed. Zokar is again posing as a controlled Astro-Zombie, ready to do Malvira's bidding.

The evil control aliens release more A-Z's from the compound as they are ordered now to search out and kill certain victims.

In the control room of the good aliens, ASTP-73 and an assistant zero in on the cyber-space commands being sent to the A-Z's by the evil aliens. ASTP-73 and the assistant appear in the control room of Zekith and an electronic battle ensues, not unlike a video-game battle.

In Malvira's demo room, one of the person's there is an FBI agent who recognizes Jeff. As Malvira and Zokar try to shoot their way out of the trap, they are shot, and Jeff and Cindy are freed as the foreign agents race out of the room in a panic.

In Zekith's control room, ASTP-73 and his assistant, who then trigger impulses that explode the heads of Zekith and the other aliens, win the electronic battle. Strange goop flies in every direction and splatters the walls. Astro-Zombies everywhere drop dead in their tracks. Their would-be victims, frozen in terror, are greatly relieved.

ASTP-73 sends signals to the captured intelligent ones that bring them out of their trance and back to reality.

In the President's office, ASTP-73 tells the president that Zekith and the evil aliens are destroyed, however they must be ever alert to prevent anything like this from happening again.

In a fancy restaurant, Jeff and Cindy toast their escape from Malvira and the evil aliens, suggesting to each other that they have really learned something from their experience.

In a neighborhood alley, a young boy picks up an ASTRO-ZOMBIE mask and machete and chases two young girls up a street, screaming in panic.

END ON A CLOSE-UP of the BOY IN THE MASK, HIS ARM FROZEN IN THE AIR, HOLDING THE MACHETE, THE FRIGHTENED GIRLS' SCREAMS HEARD OVER THE STILL SHOT.
